Divorces are stressful even when they are amicable. New Yorkers who choose to end their marriage often bring upon themselves months of negotiations over important pieces of their lives, including but not limited to the custody and support of their kids and the disposition of their physical and financial property. One popular actress, whose television program is filmed in the state, has an extra layer of stress to add to an already contentious divorce: a pregnancy from a non-marital relationship.

Morena Baccarin is expecting a child with a new partner, but is still in the process of divorcing her husband. Her husband sought to subject her to a deposition to gain information for their divorce, but Baccarin and her attorneys have requested that the questions be saved for a later date. Baccarin is in her eighth month of pregnancy and claims that complicating factors make her pregnancy high risk.

Baccarin and her soon-to-be ex-husband are attempting to settle many unanswered questions about their pending marital dissolution; of primary concern is how they will share child custody of their young son. As Baccarin has been unable to travel due to her pregnancy, she was granted primary custody of the boy, though she was also ordered to pay her husband more than $20,000 per month in support for both he and their child.

A person’s emotions can run high during the divorce process as stress builds and concerns grow. For this individual, a high risk pregnancy adds an additional element of concern to an apparently difficult divorce. As their case moves forward, Baccarin and her husband will have to deal with important legal decisions as she and her new partner welcome a child into the world.
