Workplace safety and the OSH Act (part 1)

All too often, Utica workers who suffer injuries in on-the-job accidents are made to feel as if their injuries are their own problem. Your employer, your insurance, perhaps even your coworkers may try to act as if your work-related accident was your own fault, or that hazardous conditions on the job are just a fact of life with which everyone has to deal.

Workers' compensation denied because you were not "on the job"?

"On the job" is a phrase to which few Utica workers likely give much thought on a day-to-day basis. Then, suddenly, when it actually matters -- i.e., in the wake of a workplace accident that causes injury -- you realize it can be quite a bit more nuanced, more complicated than you ever thought.

Unusual workplace accidents may still be compensable

Workers are entitled to receive compensation for injuries they suffer on the job. This may seem like a clear-cut statement to our Utica readers. However, when it comes time to file a claim, an injured worker may face any number of excuses, defenses or even attempts to shift blame onto the injured worker.

Social Security Disability and worker's compensation benefits

Workers in the construction industry face the risk of a serious on-the-job injury. Employers have obligations and best practices to follow in order to keep their employees safe, but there are no 100 percent guarantees against a work-related accident.
