Man dies in work-related accident at Sears warehouse

All employers - even those that are nationally recognized - are affected by accidents in the workplace. Even when workers undergo the proper training and follow safety protocols, accidents and subsequent injuries can still occur. Unfortunately, these injuries can even lead to fatalities. Well-known retailer Sears is currently dealing with a fatal work-related accident affecting an employee at a New York warehouse.

Does workers' compensation apply to freelancers?

Many businesses in New York turn to independent contractors to help with short-term projects without the burden of hiring permanent employees. In fact, the number of freelancers is growing at a rapid pace. This could mean serious legal issues for companies without workers' compensation insurance in place.

One person dies, one suffers construction injuries after fall

Construction workers are needed to build all types of structures. Unfortunately, construction sites often contain many dangerous elements, with heights being one of the most common ones. A fall from multiple stories can cause serious injuries or even death. Two workers were recently involved in a fall while working on a construction site in the Sunnyside area of Queens. One man died, while the other survived his construction injuries.

Workers compensation issues may arise when employees travel

Although most New York-based businesses have sufficient workers compensation for their employees when they travel throughout the country, they face potential issues when workers travel abroad, even to Puerto Rico or Canada. If an employee were to become involved in a workplace accident in another country, the employer could be stuck with a huge liability issue - including hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses. That's why having the right amount of coverage is very important.
